Research
Woody biomass, which has been used for various purposes and applications since ancient times, is an indispensable and important material that enriches our lives today.
However, there are still many unknowns regarding the formation process, structure, and characteristics of woody biomass.
Elucidating these issues and promoting further utilization of woody biomass is an essential task for realizing a sustainable society.
Our laboratory promotes research on the formation process and structure of woody biomass as well as its advanced utilization through a chemical approach.
In the former case, we are trying to elucidate the biological mechanism of woody biomass formation by collecting information on the chemical structure, quantity, and spatio-temporal arrangement of the woody components.
For the latter, we will elucidate the mechanism of expression of functions and properties, especially from the combined evaluation of physical properties, structure, and state, with the aim of optimizing existing utilization methods and creating new functional materials.
Furthermore, we are challenging to establish new measurement and evaluation methods that are necessary to carry out these researches.
We are also actively engaged in collaborative research with other fields using such new measurement and evaluation methods.
